We propose to use the remaining funds to add to the existing bank of sewing machines in the women's self-help group Centre. Our women are already adept at both stitching and embroidery thanks to teacher-volunteer input and are responsible for a steady production of blankets, quilts, bags, ornamental displays and other soft furnishings. More sewing machines and a fair chance at going into business will encourage our women to open up tailoring services and shops in the village. They will now be able to add invaluable self-generated income to their household budgets. Apart from a sense of success and self-esteem they will derive immense satisfaction from the independence by negotiating on their own terms. This is true empowerment.
