IESI -Environment Programme
IESI-thumbAs humanity moves toward the 21st century, we are left with no choice but to redefine the values and principles that underlie our relationship with the Earth. Clearly, a new approach is required.

On 5th of June 2011 Dipin organised a seminar on World Environmental Day at our Vermi-compost programme project site. The theme of the seminar was “Planet Earth our common home", we must all strive to share equitably the benefits and burdens resulting from the use of the environment. Participants were explained the importance of striking a balance between the judicious use of natural resources vs. indiscriminate destruction of Eco system. The area where Dipin is working was vastly devastated by illegal quarrying and mining of rocks in the mountains till very recently. This was being done by the unscrupulous land miners for supplying stones for construction works in Delhi and its suburbs. At Dipin we have introduced Environment preservation classes in the school syllabus.

IESI-thumbChildren are taught not to litter the environment, collect waste material and segregate between recyclable and non recyclable waste. Efforts are under way to start village awareness programmes to highlight to the community the benefits of living in clean hygienic conditions. People have responded very favourably and have assured us that they would join hands in initiating village cleanup programmes. Environmental Education especially at an early age, has a significant effect on how people form attitudes toward the environment, and is thus crucial. Educational programmes designed to enhance awareness of environmental issues and ethics must be developed and applied at all levels of society through all available and practical means.
