 | | | | | DIPIN works consistently to promote human development in the mine-ravaged, rural communities of Dhauj, Haryana. It is our aim to empower people living in extreme poverty to conquer the factors that keep them poor. | | | | | We see ourselves as partners and facilitators. Each of our five programmes attempts to address basic human needs and seeks to restore a sense of hope in backward communities whose sense of pride and zest for life has been battered by injustice, ill-health and violence. Our aim is to nurture human self-reliance and responsibility through systematic community development.
DIPIN has touched the lives of over 20,000 people suffering from deprivation and ignorance. The chance of a more promising future has instilled home and confidence in these severely disadvantaged people.
We work closely with rural societies and nurture progress towards community sustainability and welfare. We seek to win hearts and evoke willing participation in all community projects to help the poor in their own drive against poverty.
In the early days, DIPIN visited each house in every village to identify and prioritise needs. A lack of basic facilities and hygiene had resulted in needless deaths in infants, young children and mothers. Child-enrolment in government schools was almost non-existent. Farmers had suffered for years from unproductive results despite consistent efforts due to outdated farming practices and poor soil conditions. Women suffered an undignified and unequal position in the community.
Our priority is to ensure that women and children are the first to benefit from DIPIN’s volunteer-driven healthcare services as also the women’s self help groups. The primary education programme attracts more girl-students than we can cope with, marking a breakthrough in such orthodox communities.
By giving women a voice in community decision-making, our emphasis lies firmly on the welfare of women and the girls. By providing women’s education as well as self-help practical skills, we aim at making long lasting changes at the ground level.
As the value of the changes has become more and more evident, our human empowerment stratgies is displaying healthy signs of acceptance. Since DIPIN actively encourages community participation in every one of its initiatives, there has been a perceptible shift in attitude and a show of positive co-operation.
It is evident that the introduction of good health practices and an exposure to quality, all-round education provides a positive impetus to people who have so far been resigned to a life of ill-health, desperate poverty and squalid living conditions.
The fundamental benefits of community ownership have become evident to all. The visible improvement in the lives of poor people and in the immediate environs has encouraged disadvantaged families to co-operate in their own development.
