Women’s Values and Global Learning Download Volunteer Form

India is dominated by a patriarchal social system in which the father is head of the household and has full authority over women and children. Patriarchy indicates the dominance of men in society and actively reduces the role of women to that of the “weaker sex”.

DIPIN recognises an essential need for the equality of all human beings without regard to gender, caste or religion as well as the importance of individual rights, freedom and self-reliance towards economic growth.

We work to reinforce and nurture the individual rights and wellbeing of women. We seek to affirm their relevance and value in the community as the prime, motivating factor in families. We encourage their participation in activities that sustain the socio-economic stability of the community.

Our primary agenda is to generate knowledge with respect to women’s issues: health, hygiene, nutrition, literacy, children’s education and birth control.

With training and mentoring by skilled professionals, many income-oriented activities like sewing and handicrafts are in active production. In fact, this undertaking has been so successful that our school uniforms contract for the year 2006-2007 was awarded to our own women’s self help group! Additionally, our volunteers assist women to avail of micro-credit facilities and resources.

The useful and productive outcome promoted by our self-help groups have actively excited community interest and also generated an awareness of health concerns and essential immunisation needs. This has promoted positively towards a willing participation in the basic issues that govern self-determination.

We periodically screen socially relevant films for women in order to encourage independent thinking. This affords them the chance to view life from a broader perspective and specifically from the commonality of the experience of being female.
